First-Year Registration and Orientation

We're happy you will be joining us Fall 2020! Your next step is to attend First-Year Registration and Orientation. 

  • Orientation is a required program which includes class registration, meeting your first-year advisor, getting your Stout BlueCard and laptop, and connecting with other UW-Stout students.

  • Guests are welcome, but not required, to attend. First-Year Registration and Orientation is a full day program running from 8:00 AM to approximately 4:00 PM. Students must attend the entire orientation day, so please plan accordingly.

Before attending First-Year Registration and Orientation please complete the following steps:

Step 1) Activate your UW-Stout e-mail account

  • Go to to activate your UW-Stout e-mail. You will need your campus ID number.

  • After successfully setting your password, you will be directed to activate your UW-Stout e-mail account.

  • Your e-mail username and password are used for all UW-Stout login functions. Please activate them prior to attending First-Year Registration and Orientation.

Step 2) Register to attend First-Year Registration and Orientation

  • Initial First-Year Registration and Orientation invitations will be sent to your UW-Stout e-mail in March.

  • For your convenience, First-Year Registration and Orientation will be held:
    • June 1, 2, 4, and 5
    • June 8, 9, 11, and 12
    • June 15, 16, 18 and 19

Step 3) Take the University of Wisconsin Placement Tests in English and Mathematics

  • All first-year students are required to either take the Wisconsin English and Math Placement Tests or have college credit in English and Math.

  • If you plan to take a world language course while attending UW-Stout, you will need to take the World Languages Placement Test. World Languages Placement Tests are offered in French, German, and Spanish.
