Mia Bartel will be a junior in the B.S. Graphic Communications program at UW-Stout. She has been awarded $10,700 in scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year. The awards were provided by:
- Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association (FFTA) who provide financial aid to students interested in the fields of flexography and/or graphic communication.
- Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) a not-for-profit, private, industry-directed organization that dispenses undergraduate college scholarships and graduate fellowship assistance to talented men and women interested in graphic communication careers.
- Tag and Label Manufactures Inc. (TLMI) who provide scholarship selection based on academic achievement, a demonstrated interest in the tag, label and package printing industry, a statement of goals, a personal interview.
Currently, Bartel is a Print Team member in a co-op internship at Big Dot of Happiness in Menomonie. Big Dot of Happiness creates and ships signature party and special event supplies. Bartel prepares print layouts and problem solves printer issues with the help of her team members.
In 2018, Bartel was a participant in the Phoenix Challenge Competition. During the flexographic competition, Bartel's team designed a 32-ounce jar shrink sleeve label and an 8-ounce jar pressure sensitive label for specialty jams. The five-member team won the competition for the Best Research category.
Bartel is enthusiastic about next year's Graphic Communications hands-on learning opportunities. She is confident her internship and graphic communication courses will prepare her for a successful career in the print and label industry.
